Top 5 Tips For Travel With Kids to Hong Kong

We went to Hong Kong a few years back when our first-born child was three years old. It was a long plane ride from Texas to Hong Kong and then back but it was a memorable and very enjoyable trip. In particular, there were lots of unique family oriented experiences that made the trip special.

Our Top 5 Travel with Kids Tips for Hong Kong:

#1 Ocean Park

Ocean Park is the most unique and most naturally beautiful theme park we have ever been to. The park is divided into two parts that are connected by a sky tram or you can also ride a cool train that gets you to the other side. We did the sky tram and it was a really neat experience because you get amazing views of parts of Hong Kong along the way.

The two parts of the park are divided into a lower level and an upper level. The lower level has a massive aquarium that has all types of exotic sea life along with a penguin habitat that we thought was really impressive. There are other exotic animals that can be seen in the lower level of the park such as pandas.

The upper level of the park has carnival/theme park types of rides but several of those are catered for older kids. There is plenty of entertainment in this park for all ages, we really enjoyed the dolphin show with an amazing backdrop view.

#2 Hong Kong Disney

If not for Ocean Park’s uniqueness, we would have Hong Kong Disney #1 on our list of things to see and do. Hong Kong Disney is relatively smaller than the Disney Parks we have been to in Orlando, however it the most unique one we have been to because of the cultural and food elements that are different. English is prevalent throughout the park but we did watch a show or two that was in Cantonese, which was a unique experience.

There is definitely overlap in some of the rides that are in Hong Kong Disney and other Disney Parks around the world but it was our first visit to a Disney Park since having kids so the experience was tremendous. There plenty of food different food options in this park so finding something to eat that suits each person’s needs shouldn’t be a problem. We do recommend purchasing tickets in advance and also buying fast pass options to cut down waiting times in lines.

#3 The Peak

Visiting The Peak should be very high on the list of things to do in Hong Kong. The views from the viewing area on the top of The Peak Tower are stunning and incredible. If there is one place you want to make sure you get great pictures while in Hong Kong, its here.

Aside from the viewing deck, there are restaurants where you can eat really good food and also enjoy the spectacular views.  Others activities include the Peak Circle Walk to for additional viewing points while you walk around the area. There is also a playground for kids that is a good way to take a break from the walk.

#4 The Hong Kong Observation Wheel

The Hong Kong Observation Wheel is a really fun thing to do with kids. The views of Victoria Harbour are excellent and the ride gives you plenty of time to enjoy them with three wheel spins that last around twenty minutes. We went in the evening so got to also enjoy some good ice cream and views of the Symphony of Lights show.

The Symphony of Lights show starts around 8 pm every night and is an amazing display of colored lasers that shoot from top of buildings on both sides of the Hong Kong harbour, all with Orchestra music playing alongside with the lights and show.

#5 Egg Waffle

Hong Kong has plenty of unique and delicious food. One thing in particular that is unique and very popular is what is called an egg waffle (also goes by other names like bubble waffle and Hong Kong waffle). The bubbly appearance and method of preparation are unique. The original flavor of this waffle is mildly sweet but there are many delicious flavors that can be had and egg waffles are a street food that can be found all around the city. We even had it with ice cream and our son loved it!
