Several years back, I went on a professional trip to Singapore and was able to explore this impressive Island country. Singapore is one of the safest, cleanest, and most culturally diverse countries in the world. From high-end shopping, lush greenery/park, spectacular architecture, and world-class dining/food, there is a lot to see and do in Singapore.
Top 5 Family-Friendly things to do in Singapore:
#1 Gardens by the Bay
Gardens by the Bay is in the popular tourist district of Marina Bay and is one of the most aesthetically impressive, futuristic gardens in the world. Supertree Grove features 18 perfectly shaped and maintained trees that provide shade as you walk through the walkways of the garden during the day but transform into a dazzling display of lights at night. In addition to the supertrees, there are several other unique attractions in the Garden, including a mist-filled landscape of rare vegetation and a 114-foot indoor waterfall in an area called Cloud Forest. Floral Fantasy and Floral Dome are also must-see attractions at Gardens by the Bay.
#2 Singapore Flyer
Singapore Flyer is a 42-story tall Ferris wheel and is considered the largest in Asia. However, what makes it a major attraction are the spectacular 360 views of the urban landscape, far out into the distance. In fact, from its peak, it is possible to get a glimpse of two neighboring countries (Malaysia and Indonesia) from this Ferris wheel! The pods on the wheel are state-of-the-art and air-conditioned, thus making it a great activity to cool off from the humidity and heat that is constant in Singapore.
#3 Merlion Park
When visiting Singapore, a visit to Merlion Park is a must. The Merlion statue is the main attraction and is one of the most iconic symbols of Singapore. The statue has the head of a lion and the body and tail of a fish, and the mouth squirts a large stream of water into the bay. The statue combined with the panoramic view of the entire bay area makes this a must-see attraction for tourists.
#4 Maxwell Food Centre
Singapore is a haven for foodies with its abundance of world-class and diverse cuisine. However, hawker food is distinct and a specialty in Singapore, and Maxwell Food Centre is one of the most popular food centers on the island. There is a wide variety of food stalls that cover all types of food, fresh juices, and drinks but Hainanese Chicken Rice is a must-eat attraction.
#5 Mandai Night Safari
One of the more unique activities I did in Singapore was the Mandai Night Safari, it is considered the world’s first nocturnal wildlife park. The tram ride is fun and the variety of animals you get to see is quite impressive. Other attractions at the premises include night shows/performances, several scenic walking trails, and open-air restaurants with nice views.
There is so much more to see and do in Singapore. Other things to consider exploring are the many historical and architecturally impressive houses of worship (mosques, temples, and churches). Sentosa is an island resort that I did not get a chance to explore but has many attractions including some popular beaches and Universal Studios Singapore. The SkyPark at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel is worth a visit as well to get fantastic views of Singapore’s skyline.
